This wild and beautiful country is one of the few places in Africa that remains completely unspoilt. This is true African Wilderness, where animals roam freely, and visitors are flown into remote camps, from where they can explore the area. The Okavango Delta is an inland waterway with the most unusual environment comprising diverse habitats, where many species of mammals, birds and fish reside.

What makes a holiday to Botswana so unique ....

One of the most popular destinations for guests who travel Botswana is the Moremi Game Reserve, which lies on the eastern fringe of the Delta. This massive game park is famous for its intensity of wildlife, including herds of elephant, buffalo, giraffe and antelope. Another unusual area is the Linyanti Region, to the north east, where in the dry season you can see hundreds of buffalo with a pride of lion in pursuit.

Botswana tours give you the opportunity to experience one of the world’s last true unspoilt wilderness areas. A vast country with huge populations of game, it’s a prime safari destination. Botswana is home to the mysterious Okavango Delta, the shimmering white salt pans at the Makgadikgadi Pans, and one of the largest elephant populations at Chobe.

Perhaps its biggest draw card is the wetland sanctuary of Botswana’s Okavango Delta. The largest inland delta in the world, you’re assured of excellent game viewing all year round. The camps here are small and intimate, offering good, wholesome food and very comfortable accommodation.

The Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana, on the eastern fringe of the Delta is a patch of heaven. Guests can expect to see lily-covered wetlands, grass plains and lush forests, where an impressive variety of animals and birds make their home. This reserve is so vast that it’s not uncommon to spend an entire day on safari without encountering another game viewing vehicle!

The Savute area covers almost 5 000 square kilometres in the south west of the Chobe National Park and is heralded as one of the best wildlife viewing areas in Africa, with particular reference to its fantastic predator populations. Animals are present during all seasons and at certain times of the year, their numbers can be staggering!

Another noted area in the far southern corner of the Chobe National Park, is the Linyanti ‘paradise’. Covering an area of almost 900 square kilometres, with a short strip of swampy river frontage, the area is reminiscent of the Delta’s waterways. Wildlife is plentiful, especially in the dry winter months when great concentrations of elephant, buffalo and zebra congregate along the river.

If you’re fascinated by elephant, you’ll find the majestic beasts in huge numbers in the Chobe National Park. Take a sunset cruise and marvel at them congregated at the water’s edge. From here you can easily spend the day exploring nearby Victoria Falls.

In stark contrast to the lush waterways of the Delta is the Makgadikgadi Pans, with mile after mile of shimmering white salt pans, Stone Age ruins, stretches of savannah and pre-historic beaches. Visitors are blown away by the desolation and the sense of utter freedom it invokes.

Across in Botswana’s eastern corner lies the Tuli enclave, a diverse wilderness of savannah, riverine forests, marshland, open plains and sandstone outcrops. Within this area you are able to experience game on foot, horseback or on a cycling tour.

We recommend that you spend at least four nights on safari in this beautiful country, and we have Botswana packages with combinations that visit the three main safari areas - Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve and the Linyanti region - with add-on’s to Chobe or a relaxing houseboat experience.

For the best game viewing experience, it is recommended that visitors on a Botswana tour spend some time at a ‘water’ camp and some time at a ‘land’ camp. The focus at the water camps is on traditional mokoro canoe safaris, whilst at the land camps the majority of activities are conducted in open safari vehicles.

Our Botswana packages feature a total of four nights on safari with two nights spent at your choice of a camp in the Okavango Delta, Moremi Reserve or Linyanti region. Each of these areas is unique so why not extend your stay. We also offer combination camps where land and water based activities are available should you be short of time!

A Typical Day on Safari in Botswana

Begin your day with an early morning wake-up (between 05h00 and 06h00 depending on the season) with tea and coffee. Meet in the central area for a light meal of cereal, fruit, biscuits and juice.

Depart on your game viewing activity, which includes a short stop in the wilderness for a snack and coffee en route. Return to camp at about 10h30 for a hearty brunch at 11h00. The afternoon is free for a siesta or a dip in the pool. At 15h30, afternoon tea is served, followed by a late afternoon game viewing activity. Stop for sundowners and snacks, before returning to the camp in time for a 3 course dinner at 20h00.

The following are excellent combinations for Botswana tours:

• Spend a few days marvelling at the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls in either Zimbabwe or Zambia, before or after visiting the Delta. These two regions link up easily with a short road transfer between Victoria Falls and Kasane, and then an onward air transfer into the Delta.

• Combine a visit to the stark deserts of Namibia with the lush wetlands of the Okavango Delta - scheduled flights between Windhoek and Maun Airport operate three times a week.

Highlights
    •  Watch hundreds of elephant converge on the Chobe River.
    •  See wild dog while game viewing in the Moremi Reserve.
    •  Take a mokoro trip on the Okavango and glide effortlessly through the myriad of         waterways.
    •  Enjoy a sunset cruise on the Linyanti River.
    •  Go on game/nature walks in the Delta.
